Physiotherapy Treatment Of Heel Pain
Do you have pain in your heel after running on hard surfaces?
Plantar fasciitis (tendonitis)
This injury involves inflammation of the tendon underneath the arch of the foot where it attaches to the heel. The trauma is caused by a stretching or explosive ‘toe-off’ phase during running on a hard surface. The pain radiates along the sole of the foot, made worse by activity, hiking or climbing stairs. Early morning stiffness is a prominent feature.
How is HEEL PAIN treated by Physiotherapists?
The physiotherapy treatment involves deep tissue massage, passive stretching, ultrasound techniques and eccentric (reverse) strengthening exercises. The physiotherapist will often prescribe corrective orthotics to wear in the sports shoe to lessen the strain on the attachments.
